On the Recent Developments Concerning the Development Program for the Port of Piraeus

The Chamber of Greek-Chinese Economic Cooperation is following, with intense anxiety, the barrage of negative developments concerning the development programme for the Piraeus Port Authority promoted by Cosco. The recent decisions of the Central Archaeological Council blocking the investment plan for the Harbour of Piraeus, combined with recent actions from the Chinese side (the signature of China-Italy investment agreements worth tens of billions of euro, the agreement for the management of 4 Italian ports by Chinese companies and the concession of the port of Trieste to Cosco) mark a strong warning for the much-awaited Chinese investments in Greece in the context of Peking’s New Silk Roads project.

The Greek Government has a duty to take immediate and decisive action before it is too late.
