Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Official Visit to Greece

Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Athens in November, announcing even wider and deeper investments from Beijing, which views our country as its entrance into Europe. The high profile visit comes as economic relations between the two countries are broadening. Just the previous week, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had visited Shanghai to attend the International Import Expo and foster increased trade, inaugurating a new era in bilateral relations between the two countries.
During his trip to Greece, President Xi visited the country’s biggest port of Piraeus, controlled by China’s state-owned Cosco, witnessed the opening of Bank of China’s first branch in the country and visited historic sites such as the Acropolis.
Greece and China also signed 16 agreements deepening bilateral cooperation in sectors ranging from transport, investments and agri-food products, to crime prevention and culture.
